Hello hello hello and welcome to the very first Boys Go To Jupiter newsletter!!
We’ll try to send these out every month or so to show you some behind the scenes of our band and songwriting, share fun updates about upcoming releases/events/shows, and get to know you all.
You can reply to these directly or leave a comment, and please do– we’ll respond! It’s a small email list right now, but that’s super cool because it means you can tell us your deepest darkest secrets, what/who you like/hate, and what you want to see more of. If that’s not convincing enough, remember that emails are just songs that haven’t been put to music yet, so reading this is sort of like a private concert without the drinks and tall person in front of you.
⚡️ Item One: Singlesinglesinglesingle
No, we’re not talking about Luke and Jess’ love lives… It's way more exciting than that. Our debut single Last Last Time is out on Friday 3/31!! We are immensely proud of this track. It’s a retro pop BAN.GER designed to transport you to around 1986, or what we imagine 1986 was probably like. It’s about saying goodbye and lost love and all that good good stuff! It has cool sweepy synths and awesome drums and a really incredible vocal performance from Jess. You’re seriously going to love it. Was that a good pitch?
Here’s our album art! It’s a picture of a young Luke’s mom singing in the car, circa 1979 (this is also what you should do when you listen to Last Last Time, circa 2023).
SUPER IMPORTANT: It actually helps us so much if you PRESAVE the track before the release date. This demonstrates that there’s buzz around the song which makes it more likely that playlists check it out! So go presave! it’s one click! Do it now!
As a thank you for presaving (and spreading the word!), here’s some cool stuff we put together for promo that we haven’t released yet.
A snippet of a little music video we made (produced by Ulysses Media!)
A clip of an early demo where caleb sings the song horribly.
A screenshot in which he and Luke beg for forgiveness...
👽 Item Two: ok but don't you have other songs…?
We’re also working on recording a bunch of our other music to be released in the coming months! It’s been a great time so far and we’re excited to get all these tracks down. Legend has it that the drums for Overconfident have already been recorded and sound sweet….
🎤 Item Three: SHOWWWWWW!
We are so psyched to be bringing the full band back for a huge show on April 21st at The Delancey! This show is going to be a party– there will be old songs and new, dancing-til-toes-burst-thru-shoes, probably pyrotechnics, and new instruments never heard by humans before. You’re gonna want to bring like 10 friends. But seriously, don’t miss this one!
(Also this show is super important for us cause we are opening for Robin Taylor Zander, son of Cheap Trick rockstar Robin Zander [!!] and so the more people that come out the better!)
🎁 Item Four: Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge
Ok last thing. This is crazy. We had a crazy idea. A few weeks ago, Caleb was reading about Weird Al Yankovic (he does this most mornings) when he stumbled upon a fun fact. Apparently Weird Al used to give out pennies to his audience during shows and promise them that at the next show they attended, they could exchange their penny for a nickel, and so on and so on until everybody was rich. Caleb told the group, and the gears started turning.
Just a few weeks later, we were dm’ed on instagram by someone asking if they could buy our merch for their girlfriend’s upcoming birthday, citing BGTJ as her favorite “band.” We were over the moon! Only problem? We didn't have any merch yet… Ding! We put two and two together (we do this most mornings) and came up with the BGTJ PUNCH CARD!
What the heck is it? We made a bunch of cute handmade punch cards that we’re gonna give out for free at our shows. For every show you attend, we’ve come up with some stupid fun rewards. Gonna be a blast.
✅ OK! I think that’s everything.
As always, we’ll end with some questions for you, intrepid reader.
1. Was this a good newsletter?
2. Was this a “newsletter” at all?
3. What should the BGTJ fanbase be called?
4. Should we make real merch? Hats? Sweaters? Toothbrushes?
5. Should we add five more members to the band?
6. Should we all have a big falling out and start edgy solo careers?
7. Can someone fact-check that Weird Al story bc now I feel like I made it up....
We want to hear from you!
Byeeeeeeeeee
